Things to Do 1 Week Before a Trip

Are you ready for that vacation? Don’t leave everything to the last minute. Travel smart by making sure you do these things at least a week before your trip!

1. Make sure all bills are paid for

Is the water bill paid? What about your electricity, cable, internet, phone and credit card bills? Take note especially if you’re leaving for a few weeks. Trust me, you don’t wanna see late fees when you get back!

Additional tip: When you call your credit card company, don’t forget to inform them that you’ll be going out of the country. This way, they won’t have to call you long distance just to confirm if that was really you who made a transaction from France, or Hawaii, or wherever it is you’re vacationing from!

2. Go over your packing list already

Clothes, check! Diapers, check! Camera, check! Make sure you haven’t run out on anything. No last minute rushing to the mall to get that sunblock you forgot to buy! I personally start packing a week before the trip but I know some people will say that’s too much (haha!) so I’m recommending you AT LEAST go over the list instead.

Don’t forget to double check your first-aid travel kit and go over the expiration dates of the medicines. No use bringing expired meds!

3. Slowly finish perishable food in the refrigerator!

Don’t go buying any more perishable food a few days before your trip as they will most probably spoil by the time you get back. A good excuse to stuff your face full. You’re welcome.

4. Confirm all travel reservations

Double-check with the hotels if everything is in order. If you made special requests (extra bed or early check-in, for example,) it won’t hurt to remind them. Don’t forget to double-check your flight details as well as there could be last minute changes you might have missed.

5. Make an extra effort to stay in tip-top shape

Nothing ruins a trip more than getting sick on the road so I make sure to take extra steps in keeping myself healthy and ready whenever I have upcoming trips. I lessen eating sweets (sugar cripples your immune system hours after you take them in, did you know that?) and I avoid going to crowded places.

More importantly, I take double doses of my vitamins and supplements. I also make sure to take my colostrum supplements like IgCo Milk (which has colostrum) because Colostrum really helps in building up the immune system. To all moms, remember how they say your colostrum is like magic milk for your newborn? Well, apparently, colostrum from cows also works wonders for us! Guess who I learned this from? Luke’s pediatrician! Haha.

BONUS TIP:

And if you’re getting vaccines or shots, make sure you ask how long it will take to take effect. Some flu shots for example take two weeks so you’ll have to get them at least two weeks before you leave!
