There’s probably no other fair I look forward to the most than the annual Big Bad Wolf Book Fair in Manila. And I’m happy to report that I was not disappointed this year!
Big Bad Wolf 2020
This is the 3rd time that Big Bad Wolf fair has been held in Manila. (See our book hauls from the previous years here: Year 1 and Year 2)
This is where I burn our tuition money go crazy and buy a ton of books for the kids! I usually spend 3-4 hours here on one go and I go back for a second time. Haha.
So what’s different about Big Bad Wolf Manila 2020? Here are my observations:
- More organized: Sections were arranged better. Appreciated the sections where they placed all the books that were by particular publishers together. I’m sure girl moms will appreciate the entire section labelled “Frozen Books” as well. 😀
- A bit smaller than before: The cashier used to be at a compeltely different hall, but not this time. So that means that there were also fewer books displayed.
- Old titles were still available: Some books sold last year were still here! Could also mean there were fewer new books but honestly, not that big of a deal. In fact, I was particularly happy because I wanted to buy 2 titles last year but weren’t able to find them. And was able to get them this time!
Also happy that they took extra precautions because of the nCoV situation this year. All staff members are required to wear masks. There’s also a temperature checkpoint before entry and they spray your hands with alcohol before you go in and after. I appreciate that a LOT!
Now let’s get on with the books!
1. When the Stars Come Out
A unique book that explores the world at night. What makes the night so different? What makes it so special? I love that it delves into certain topics that I have never discussed with my son yet. I’m learning together with him as we read this book!
2. The Earth Book
I saw this book last year but wasn’t able to get it. So happy to have seen it this year. I think it was the first book on my cart!
A book that’s beautifully illustrated and explores the different aspects of our world. From volcanos, to the weather and even to some famous earthlings. It’s a wonderful book that opens up many interesting ideas for children.
3. Humanatomy
There were so many nice anatomy books available at The Big Bad Wolf Sale this year and I’m so glad! I’ve been looking for a nice anatomy book for the kids, and I ended up getting 3 different ones. Haha. (No regrets!!)
Fully illustrated and explains the different systems in detail. There are also questions and answers, which kids will find enjoyable.
4. The Encyclopedia of Animals
I really need to learn not to judge a book by its cover! Haha. I’ve seen this last year but didn’t get it because I did not like the cover. I took a chance to browse through it this year and was so pleasantly surprised to see that the drawings were so intricately illustrated! I was so impressed!
It’s a thick, beautifully drawn book matched with stunning photographs. It’s also very neatly organized. Perfect reference book for when you’re doing zoology lessons or if you just want to enjoy learning more about animals.
5. How to Build a City
And last but not least is my favorite purchase out of the lot. How to Build a City tackles the different aspects of running (or starting) your own city. What do you need to do first? What are the things you need to address? Such a unique book that opens up many interesting points of discussions for kids.
I cannot recommend it enough.
Big Bad Wolf Manila 2020 runs from February 14-24, 2020 at the World Trade Center in Manila.
