Wearing the wrong shoes when you’re out can be a hassle, to say the least. But with kids? Oh boy. That could really ruin the day, not just for them but for everyone (imagine all the whining that would ensue! Ha!)
So it’s important to make sure that kids have good quality shoes. Today, I rounded up my top 5 things to consider when choosing shoes for kids. Hope this helps!
1. Right Fit
Who’s guilty of buying clothes one size up so the kids get to wear them longer? Eep, count me in on that. But that is a BIG no-no when buying shoes.
Big shoes increase the risk of kids tripping. On the other hand, buying too small is, of course, impractical and uncomfortable. Finding that perfect fit is key. I believe it is one of the first and most important criteria that you need to take note of when choosing your new pair.
2. Easy to Wear
Depending on their age, it can be troublesome for little kids to work on shoes with complicated ties or fasteners. Make sure the pair you choose is easy to wear and something they can do on their own. This will also help promote confidence in their skills and encourage them to be more independent.
3. Flexible and Shock-Absorbing
My son loves climbing and jumping so shoes that are shock-absorbing are important. Having shoes that are shock-absorbing protects his knees and legs from injuries.
Having shoes that are flexible also helps make it comfortable so that no matter how much your kid runs or jumps, the shoes won’t hurt his feet.
4. Waterproof
If your kids thrive on the outdoors then waterproof shoes are a must. It can get crazy when it’s rainy season here in Manila so having shoes that protect your kid’s feet from getting wet is a huge advantage.
As one of my favorite nordic sayings go, “There’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes!” And it’s true. If your kids are wearing waterproof shoes, you don’t have to worry about puddles and rain.
5. Durable
Kids will use their shoes to their limit without giving it a second thought! So choose a pair that’s durable; something that doesn’t easily wear out.
Consider getting shoes made of sturdy materials, such as rubber for example. These last longer and are stronger than other more common materials such as leather.
Luke’s Latest Favorite: Easy Soft Shoes
Because I’m on the road to minimalism, I try to limit our personal things to only what is essential. Luke has only 3-4 pairs of shoes at a time and they each serve a particular purpose.
One of the pairs that he insists on wearing often are his new Easy Soft shoes and I don’t blame him! It’s actually the only pair from his current line-up that fits ALL 5 QUALITIES that I mentioned above!
Honestly, when I heard about Easy Soft shoes by World Balance, I didn’t believe it. They looked like leather but how could they be waterproof (for one?) But apparently, the secret was that it was actually made of rubber! This is why it’s flexible, durable and waterproof. Pretty cool, right?
It’s great as school shoes, especially for kids who love playing outdoors after class. Personally, I think Luke loves it a lot because I let him jump on puddles whenever he wears this. Haha.
I hope they come out with more styles and colors soon! In the meantime, you can check out Easy Soft at their official Lazada Store here.
I think I should get Mor and I a pair as well…
