It’s our second time to travel in Shanghai with kids. We still did a lot of same-same things from 2019 (like Disneyland, of course, and Toy Story Hotel) but also a bunch of new ones! Here’s a rundown of what we did and the places we recommend!

VPN E-SIM FOR CHINA
But wait, before we begin, I’d like to start the article by sharing with you the e-sim we chose. Picking an e-sim for China is tricky because you have to make sure they can bypass China’s great firewall for all your usual apps to work (Google, Instagram, Facebook, etc.)
After a lot of research, we decided to try Saily and I’m happy to report that it worked for well for us! All my apps worked and connection was perfect.
You can download the app here and use my Saily affiliate code SHEENA8879 to get a discount of $3 off!
Now on to the list!

1. Disneytown
Always our first stop before Disneyland day! If you’re visiting Disneyland in Shanghai with kids, don’t miss it! It’s just beside the park and it’s such a pleasure to walk around this little town. We love eating, taking photos at Disney themed displays and just checking out the different shops.
They have a huge World of Disney shop here. I would recommend you get your souvenirs already so you can leave them at the hotel (or wear them, if they’re costumes, for Disneyland day!)
Our favorite is always visiting the Lego store. They have a bunch of adorable displays of different characters inside. And something different we did this time:Â Luke customized his own Lando Norris minifigure!
2. Shanghai Disneyland
I don’t think I need a whole paragraph to tell you that kids WILL enjoy Shanghai Disneyland 😉 Don’t miss Tron if you have bigger kids! They will love it!
You could check out this list of tips I wrote when we first visited. DISCLAIMER: that was written in 2019 and there have been some changes already so it’s wise to double check!
3. Toy Story Hotel
If you can, I highly recommend staying at least one night at The Toy Story Hotel. It’s such a cute hotel and the theming is unbelievable! I made a more thorough review of it as well during our first visit so I’m link that here. Always a hit!
Don’t forget to spend at least half a day exploring the hotel. The characters show up at random times too (but last we went, they said it was mostly in the afternoon!)
4. Yu Yuan Garden
I didn’t want the kids to miss one of Shanghai’s top sights, especially since it’s their first time to visit. And they surprisingly really enjoyed it! There were many curious rock formations, bridges and areas to explore. We purchased tickets to Yu Yuan Garden on the spot.
5. Yu Yuan Bazaar
Just beside Yu Yuan Garden is a bunch of shops and an entire outdoor shopping complex. Beautiful light displays come out at night and it’s something you shouldn’t miss! The kids had a lot of fun trying out a bunch of food from the stalls and I enjoyed shopping for trinkets (there was particularly one souvenir/stationery shop that I enjoyed so much!)
6. Canton 8
We made reservations to dine at Canton 8, a Two Michelin Starred restaurant that’s not ridiculously priced. It was a wonderful meal, but to be honest, we’ve tried better Chinese food back home in the Philippines. Haha. But maybe that’s just us. 😀 For me, it’s worth to try for the experience!
7. Polux at Xin Tian Di
I love the whole vibe of Xin Tian Di but it was so crowded when we went. Good thing we made a reservation early at Polux by Paul Pairet. People highly recommended this for brunch so that’s what we did! Everyone enjoyed the modern french style food (especially the kids!)
Polux is a Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant.
8. The Bund
Dropped by this iconic area: The Bund. If you like luxury shopping, it’s a nice place to walk around in. It’s not really for kids (though mine enjoyed sitting outdoors and enjoying the fresh air and sunshine!) so we didn’t spend a long time here. If you don’t feel like you need to visit, you can just skip this.
9. North Bund
But North Bund, I recommend! It’s this new development and there’s lots of wonderful spots to take photos in with Shanghai’s iconic skyline. Lots of greenery too and the kids enjoyed exploring. Don’t forget to visit the visitor’s center. They have stamps for those who journal (like us!), which was so cute!
