Spectrum of the Seas: A Review of Our Royal Caribbean Asia Cruise with Kids

Royal Spectrum of the Seas 3-min

It was our kids’ first time to cruise and they absolutely loved it! Sharing highlights from our 4-Day Royal Caribbean Asia cruise trip.

Royal Caribbean

It’s my second time cruising. First time was more than 10 years ago on our honeymoon to Alaska. Mor and I also sailed with Royal Caribbean then. The experience was wonderful so we had no hesitations in going on another cruise with Royal. A first for my kids and the rest of my family (we went with my dad and siblings!)

Spectrum of the Seas

Spectrum of the Seas is a Quantum Class cruise ship by Royal Caribbean. The ship is crazy big (though not as crazy big as their craziest and biggest ship to date; the Icon of the Seas!) You’ll see below all the fun activities you can do at the ship!

We joined the 4-Day Asia Cruise that starts and ends in Singapore with stops at Penang, Malaysia and Phuket, Thailand. And we availed of their “Kids Sail Free” promo + early bird (we booked a year in advance.)

Room

When Mor and I had our honeymoon, we were just starting and couldn’t afford a luxurious room so we booked the cheapest room; the one where the room literally just had a bed and a closet, with no windows. Haha.

10 years later, we’re so glad we can now enjoy a comfortable spacious room with a balcony for our family of 4! 😉

We booked a Balcony Stateroom which had a King bed and a sofa bed (where the boys slept!) The bathroom was small as expected but it was good enough. Everything was clean and spotless.

Dining

We didn’t visit any of the restaurants that required an additional payment, which means all our meals were already included in our booking.

There are different places where you can dine for free (well, at least included in your ticket) We frequented the Windjammer (buffet style) and the Dining Room but the Dining Room was hands down our (mine and my husband’s) personal favorite.

It felt less crowded at The Dining Room and the food was prepared very nicely. Our waiters were extremely accommodating as well and it was always a pleasure to dine there. Breakfast here was good (photos above!)

On Board Activities

Here are some of the activities you can do on board.

1. iFly Indoor Skydiving

We booked the 1 minute free session and it was worth it!

2. Wall Climbing

Younger kids like my 5 year old, weren’t allowed to try. :( But my 9 year old kept going up again and again through out our whole stay!

3. Bumper Cars

The line can get long but the fun was worth it! It’s right beside the arcade too.

4. Shows

Lots of shows to keep you entertained. Two that we were able to see were The Silk Road (an acrobatic show) and The Effectors (a superhero themed show aimed at kids).

5. Flowrider (We didn’t get to try this one)

We didn’t get to try this one because they were so overwhelmed with all the activities but we watched people try it and it looks like a lot of fun (and work! Haha!)

Other activities:

Of course there’s all the usuals: pool with slides, sports like table tennis, archery and indoor football and trivia games. My dad enjoyed and won The Beatles trivia one! 😉

There was also a dance class that my kids surprisingly enjoyed. It really just depends on what you like.

Tips

Royal Spectrum of the Seas 10-min

Overall, it was a good choice for a family vacation in my opinion. Those who wanna rest can rest in their staterooms or explore at the own leisure. Kids and young ones can try out the different activities.

If you want to eat, you can dine anytime at some of the restaurants and get snacks like hotdogs and ice cream by the pool.

As a mom of young kids, it was tiring for me because I had to go around with my kids! But at the same time, I didn’t want them to miss out on the fun so I ended up going with them to take their photos everywhere. Haha #MomLife.

Here are some tips that hopefully will help if you plan on booking

  • Download the app and study it: My siblings had the time and energy and diligently studied the schedules and bookings. Because of that, they were able to book iFly slots for us and also make reservations for the shows. We didn’t have to line up.
  • Bring refillable water bottles: They provide you with plastic bottles at the start of the cruise but they don’t add after. You can refill at the restaurants if you have containers though.
  • Fruit cups and cookies are free at the small cafes: Just ask the server! Sharing it as a tip because we initially assumed they were for purchase. They will specifically put a price tag on food that’s for purchase.

Have fun!
