Sheena Loves Sunsets

On Sunsets and God’s Grace

Seven years ago, I started my blog and called it Sheena Loves Sunsets.

To be honest, I didn’t think much about the name then. Little did I know that it would become such a huge part of my life. There have even been times when “sunsets” became an extension of my name; I’ve gotten a few “Hi, Sheena Loves Sunsets” over time!

But I don’t mind at all. I really do love sunsets anyway.

Warm Sand and Sunsets

I’m a simple person with simple pleasures in life.

I enjoy the sound of raindrops, long summer days, sitting on the grass, the feeling of warm sand on my toes and quiet Sunday afternoons. I like eating buttered popcorn, feeling the cold wind on my cheeks, looking up at the stars (no matter how few) and holding hands with my favorite person.

Oh, and I enjoy sunsets too. A lot. Sunsets are one of the many things I love about life and they remind me most of God’s grace.

God’s Amazing Grace

Sunsets herald the end of the day beautifully. When Jesus came in my life, it was like the end of one day and the beginning of another. In this way, the burnt skies are like a picture of how God has turned my past into a beautiful testimony of His great love.

My past, sins and mistakes, don’t deserve to be transformed into something beautiful but that’s exactly what Jesus did. I also did not deserve a new chance or a new life, but that’s what Jesus gave.

Sometimes, I think about how my life would be so different if Jesus didn’t pursue me; I wouldn’t be illustrating Bible verses, I wouldn’t be married to my husband now and I wouldn’t have peace about my mom’s passing. That’s just naming a few.

But more than those things, if Jesus didn’t reveal Himself to me 8 years ago, I wouldn’t have known the greatest love, experienced the greatest peace and understood the greatest sacrifice.

Jesus said “I have come that they may have life and have it to the full” and I can honestly say that it is only by His grace that I have that now through Him. I didn’t do anything to deserve it.

Sunsets though, no matter how beautiful, are only brief. In contrast, God’s grace knows no end.

Everyday, I make mistakes but He is always faithful. When I am apathetic towards Him, he continues to pursue me as He has always done. Life is definitely not perfect but I have all I need because of my perfect God.

Imagine, the Creator of the heavens, the earth, the stars and sunsets chose to love me. Me, the sinner who sins everyday. What amazing grace is this?
