We were in Canada for three months with two kids during the summer. So naturally, we’ve visited playgrounds to last us a lifetime (but I’m sure my sons would disagree!)
Because we spent most of our time in Richmond, here’s a list of our favorite playgrounds in Richmond, Vancouver and other nearby cities in British Columbia.
Terra Nova Adventure Play (Richmond, BC)
Hands down our #1 favorite is this gorgeously designed nature-inspired playground! The space is huge and there’s so much to enjoy for kids of all ages. You won’t regret making the drive here, even if you live quite far away. (Cover photo of this post features this park!)
- The huge slide is a hit, especially with bigger kids!
- There’s a zipline even adults can enjoy.
- Mostly shaded, which is perfect during the summer

Rainbow Park (Vancouver, BC)
Beautifully designed play structures featuring a couple of big slides (but the main one was too high for my little one, so might be better for slightly older kids)
- One of Vancouver’s latest playgrounds at the time of writing.
- Mini trampolines and obstacle course areas
- Can get crowded especially in the afternoons.
Mundy Park (Port Coquitlam, BC)
A huge treehouse inspired playground that we made sure to visit when we were at Coquitlam.
- Highlight would definitely be the huge treehouse structures with bridges that connect them.
- Shaded with large trees! Great to visit during the summer.
Kitsilano Beach Playground (Vancouver, BC)
Looking for a playground with a view? Stay til late because the sunset view here at Kits Beach is amazing!
- There’s a fun climbing structure and a small slide for the little ones.
- There are also slides and swings and lots of open area for different kinds of sports.
Steveston London (Richmond, BC)
Not as spectacular as the others but we we revisited this playground several times because the kids loved the climbing structures!
- They have 2 separate areas with age appropriate play structures: one for bigger kids and one for smaller ones.
- Unfortunately, the play areas are not shaded. So go only when it’s cloudy.
- There’s 1 shaded area there with a huge table and some benches that’s perfect for picnics.
- There’s also a mini hill that’s great for exploring and friends who lived near the area said the hill is a great sledding place when winter comes 😉
McCallan Neighborhood Park (Richmond, BC)
Very under the radar and underrated! We loved this secluded playground. We were the only ones there when we visited and the kids enjoyed the huge playground to themselves!
- The kids loved the arc structures that were great for climbing.
- Has this treehouse look and it seems newly built at the time of our visit (2022)
- Most parts were not shaded, as can be seen in the photo.
Richmond Nature Park (Richmond, BC)
A small nature-themed playground but is great to combine with a walk around Richmond Nature Park!
- Go birdwatching around the area or enjoy a peaceful walk with the kids.
- Walking trails are paved and not too long; great for little ones and seniors.
Lion’s Park (Port Coquitlam, BC)
A huge playground with many fantastic zones! It also features a water area (so watch out for wet slides because kids who come from the water area sometimes go directly on the slides without drying off first hehe)
- Lots of swings, a giant silver tube slide and many other places to explore.
- The kids enjoyed these tire play structures (?) the most though!
- They also have a zipline!!

As mentioned, we stayed in BC for a total of 3 months last summer! There is just too much to share that it gets overwhelming just thinking about what to write. Haha! But I will try my best to make more posts and hopefully you guys will enjoy and find the little guides and reviews useful!
