We celebrated Dylan’s first birthday and dedication last November with a simple, intimate, ocean-themed affair.
Invitation and Prayer Cards
“He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed.” (Psalm 107:29) ?
Dylan’s name means “son of the waves” and his second name Clyde was taken from the River Clyde in Scotland (Luke and Dylan’s second names were named after places.) So the theme for our party was definitely inspired by all things water.
The hotel already had Christmas-themed table centerpieces. But we requested for their fall-themed ones for the party because they suit our scheme better.
We had prayer cards on every table and asked guests to write prayers for Dylan. We kept all the cards for him so he could read it when he’s older. Can you spot the one Luke wrote for him?
Cake & Display
The birthday cake of my dreams from Wynne’s Cake. I wanted a non-cartoony cake so you can just imagine how in love I was with this when I saw it!
Wynne’s Cake is my go-to cake supplier. She was also the one who made Luke’s 1st Birthday cake.
This was our main (and actually, only) set-up for the party. It’s our “stage” and photo backdrop in one. Hehe. Blue balloons with hints of gold.
Hello, birthday boy! I initially wanted our color scheme to be a bit darker (more dark blues, bordering on black) but I know some of our older relatives might complain. Haha.
Dedication Ceremony
Luke gave the opening prayer. He really prepared for this and was so excited. What a sweet little big brother huhu.
Dedication ceremony was led by one of our mentors, Francis Kong.
The photo on the right is one of my favorites hehe. At first glance, it looks like Luke is intently praying. But if you closely, Dylan was actually pulling his hair and he was reacting in pain. 😀 Perfect picture of their brotherly love. Haha!
Now About the Birthday Boy…
What can I say about Dylan? He makes our world so much brighter! It’s so easy to make him laugh and easy to make him happy… just give him bread or rice! Haha (See next photo as proof!)
We were actually bribing him with bread the whole time so we could take his photo. It worked! 😉
Our little family. Life is so much sweeter with all my boys. God has been good to me.
An Open Letter for Dylan
Dear Dylan,
I love you for all you are and will always do until my last. I cannot help but pray for so many wonderful things for you. But the thing I pray most about is for you to have a great and deep relationship with God.
I pray that no matter where life takes you, you will always remain anchored in the love of the only One who can calm the winds and the raging sea. May you always see Him in everything; when the waves are roaring and in times of stillness.
And whenever you get restless, may you always find your rest in Him.
I love you.
Mommy
