Greece has been on my bucket list since I was a Greek-Mythology obsessed teen. I’m glad to say I passed on this love to my kids, which is why going on this dream adventure was a trip of a lifetime, for all of us!
Sharing with you a list of favorite things that we did in Greece with kids!
Stand in Awe of the Acropolis and Visit the Acropolis Museum

This is like the highlight of any visit in Athens for any adult but I have to say, my kids enjoyed this A LOT as well! Maybe all the homeschool history lessons and the greek mythology podcasts helped, I don’t really know for sure, but they were so excited to be at the Parthenon and to see the Acropolis in person.
For this day, we joined a tour with a guide to take us around the site. It definitely made the experience more enriching because our wonderful guide, Theodora, explained each spot and showed us digital images of what the ruins would have looked like before. Would 10/10 recommend getting a guide especially if you’re going through all these historical sites in Greece with Kids.

I also highly recommend the Acropolis Museum! It’s such a beautiful, well designed space and you can really feel the thought and care that was placed in making sure each artifact was displayed well.
Believe it or not, my usually shy 6 year old kept asking our guide questions and this made me so proud to be his homeschool teacher. Huhu. He really enjoyed visiting and exploring and would probably have stayed longer if only he weren’t hungry for lunch already.
Explore Oia and Fira

Don’t listen to people telling you Santorini is overrated — it is not! The feeling of seeing Santorini’s postcard-perfect views was unreal.

We were based in Fira, which was a beautiful little area, but the Santorini that I’m sure you’re imagining is in Oia. We spent a day there and enjoyed walking around, exploring the gorgeous caldera views.

Then before sunset, drive to Ammoudi Bay and enjoy dinner by the waters. So beautiful!
Stay in a Cave Hotel

There are endless beautiful cave/caldera accommodations in Santorini both in Oia and Fira and it really just depends on your budget and preference.

Personally we stayed at Hill Suites in Fira because we prioritized having a bigger space. It was modern and we loved it. Each room had a designated jacuzzi in the common area (it’s private for your use but it’s not right outside your unit, which was what I thought when I booked it but no worries) The breakfast was superb and it was a very charming place.
However, since it’s in Fira, the views are not the postcard-perfect views you might be expecting. For that, you need to stay in Oia.
Join a Pan Pipe Making Workshop

We booked a pan pipe making workshop at the Symposion Cultural Center in Santorini and it was very memorable! Meeting Yannis and having him teach the boys how to make a pan pipe was such a unique experience that I would highly recommend it.
Yannis also gave us the opportunity to try out different instruments like the flute and the lyre (Apollo’s Lyre!) It was like a musical lesson and workshop for all of us.

The result was a cute souvenir for each of the boys!
Learn about the Lost City of Atlantis

The Lost Atlantis Experience is one of those places that’s great to visit if you have an extra day, if it’s a rainy day OR if your kids have this obscure interest in Atlantis (that was me, when I was a kid after reading one of my dad’s books about it!) I wouldn’t say it’s a must-do in Santorini but it’s a decent place that we enjoyed.

There were a lot of interactive displays and fun things to do like playing “The Floor is Lava,” seeing a mini 3D mockup of Atlantis, digitally dressing up as an Atlantean, and more. The boys enjoyed the 7D experience most though, which felt like a Disneyland ride to them!
Go Sailing and Swimming in Volcanic Waters

I booked an Airbnb Experience for this and we had a great time. I did not think the boys would be game to swim because it was cold (we were there in October) but the waters were irresistible to them! Now they can say they were able to swim in volcanic waters right by the Aegean Sea. 😉
Explore Akrotiri

Tell your kids the story of Atlantis, then read to them about the historical eruption of Thera and then bring them here! We did that and the boys were impressed as we stepped into Greece’s version of Pompeii. It was mind boggling to see all these ruins so well preserved.
The treasures found are all displayed in the Museum of Ancient Thera located in Fira, not really within the area. We really wanted to go see it and attempted multiple times but we couldn’t make the schedule work because they closed at 3pm (so early!) 🙁
Enjoy the Gorgeous Santorini Sunsets

The sunsets in Santorini are unreal. You’ll want to catch them every single day. During our trip, we watched them from Fira, from a boat, and from Imerovigli, and each one was breathtaking in its own way.

We did a whole bunch of other stuff during our time in Greece but these are probably some of our top favorites. We traveled from Athens and visited Corinth and Delphi and then we flew to Santorini. I hope we get to go back and explore more of Greece next time (because we barely scratched the surface on this trip!)

During my stay, I used an e-sim called SAILY to stay connected. I got a 20GB plan for our 2 week trip and it was more than enough!
Saily has never failed me (I’ve used it for around 5 trips already!). You can download the app here and use my Saily affiliate code SHEENA8879 to get a discount of $3 off!
